Q:What is borosilicate glass?
A:
Borosilicate glass is a type of glass with the main ingredients of silica and boron oxide. Borosilicate glass is most well known for having very low thermal expansion, making it resistant to thermal shock, more so than any other common glass. it is also non-porous and Hypo-allergenic. Borosilicate glass was first developed by German glassmaker Otto Schott in the late 19th century.  Borosilicate glass is often used for high-quality beverage glassware and kitchenware (a popular brand name is Pyrex®). Borosilicate glassware has increased durability and has microwave and dishwasher compatibility. It contains no lead.

Q: Why do you use “borosilicate” glass?
A:
We use borosilicate glass because it is the strongest commercially available glass on the market, it is the same type of glass that your glass coffee pot or your Pyrex® pie plate is made from.

A:
No, any color that is on our straws is actually colored glass. We do not use any paints or coatings on our straws.

Q: Are these straws hard to clean, do I really need a cleaning brush?
A:
We recommend that you rinse your straw thoroughly when you are finished using it.  If it is left to dry without rinsing, it may be difficult to clean the inside. Simply soak your straw in warm soapy water and then use the cleaning brush.

Q: How do I safely store my glass drinking straws?
A:
Glass drinking straws should be stored where they will be seen and used!  One recommended method is to put them in a tall glass jar.  They look beautiful displayed as a bouquet in a “vase” in the china cabinet, brought out for use when the beverages are poured or simply stick them in a tall drinking glass and put them out on the bar or counter for easy access.  If storing your glass drinking straws in a drawer, it is recommended that they have their own compartment, separate from other utensils.

Q: My straws have become cloudy, how can I get them to sparkle again?
A:
No they are not defective. If your glass drinking straws become “cloudy” from hard water conditions in the dishwasher, simply soak in distilled white vinegar. Using a cleaning brush can speed the process to return the glass to its original crystal clear transparency.
